A tough test

Gutsy roach secure another win

This week the roach orange lads saw the return of whitworth valley for a league fixture which hadnt occurred since u7s. Whitworth were the winners of their league last year earning them promotion to the top flite. Could roach continue their unbeaten start to the season or would whitworth end that run? With the return of superstar captain benji the coaches hoped not.
The game began with the roach lads looking half asleep and whitworth passing brilliantly using the space created to good effect. If it wasnt for some outstanding saves by in form keeper thomas and some last ditch defending by benji and kayden the roach lads would find themselves a couple of goals behind. The boys needed a lift and some energy and if they wanted to maintain this unbeaten run, whitworth would make sure they had to earn it! On came nicolas and give them a lift he did carrying the ball forward into space at every opportunity resulting in some powerful shots on goal unfortunately going wide. The rest of the lads then began to follow the example with the roach lads beginning to move both with the ball and also off the ball and giving the Whitworth team a game of it. Some great link up play between benji, sam, oli, and harry occurred leaving the whitworth lads chasing shadows at times. Almost immediately oli picked up a ball on the halfway and with a great overhead flick and a quick turn (intending to put through harry on goal) the spin of the ball dropped it back at oli feet who slotted the ball passed the whitworth keeper.
Whitworth continued to bring the game to the roach lads but the roach lads were not for giving up and continued to push and press high up the pitch resulting in a number of corners. The next corner was whizzed into the box and blocked by the keeper but only as far as super winger dylan who slotted the ball home.
Half time came with the first half being fairly even. Despite the goals the roach lads would need to start playing how they can if they would finish the game on top.
The second half began and the roach orange team came out to play. The passing can only be described as pinball style football and it wasnt long before this paid off. Coach spencer had one instruction for super signing sam before kick "you beat players easily, you make great decisions when to pass, but youve got an awesome cannon son dont be afraid to use it" and he did just that and slotted home a goal with a brilliant finish. The roach lads continued to move the ball well and managed to hold whitworth back in their own half for most of the second half. Harry again showing the massive talent he has by holding the ball up well and distributing the ball to his teammates almost getting a couple of goals himself if it wasnt for some brilliant defending by whitworth. Up stepped dylan though to put the fixture to bed by scoring his second of the day and putting the fixture beyond a comeback. The roach boys however had smelt blood and continued to press and attack with ruthlessness which was capitalised on by oli who had played an awesome game getting everywhere on the pitch and deservedly getting his second. The whitworth boys continued to play good passing football but the pressing from roach was too quick and roach quickly won back possession. The game was finished off with dylan getting his hat trick following a brilliant performance putting the fixture to bed. Some great performances today most notably oli and thomas who were both outstanding. Also praise must be given to the whitworth coaches and players who were brilliant and will fit into the top division well. Next week sees the fixture against littleborough blue who have always provided roach with a great game! Can roach continue the unbeaten run?
