Another fine performance

A constantly improving roach continues unbeaten run

Another tough test wouldd be given to roach this saturday when hosting rivals littleborough blue. Previous games have always been a close affair without there being more than a goal in it. During previous fixtures the roach lads have started slow and the message from the roach coaches was simple, we cannot afford to do that today.
The lads took the message on board and from the off the roach lads began by passing the ball around comfortably creating several chances which forced the littleborough team to defend well. Some excellent 1-2 passing between benji and sam simply had the opponents chasing shadows at times and the roach lads quickly capitalised on this with a sublime finish by benji. Oli was also getting involved with the link up play attacking spaces and creating further opportunities to score. The next goal came with a play that started from the keeper. Thomas played it to the defenders, the ball quickly went wide to sam who played inside to benji, benji put the ball up the wing back to sam who pulled the ball back into benji who slotted in for his second of the at its best!! Another great passing movement and oli turned the defender going one on one with the keeper, the defender had two choices, bring him down or let him score and the defender caught oli foot bringing him down in the box...the ref had to give it. Oli had been brilliant and deserved to take the penalty. He stepped up but it went just outside of the top corner...his world ended but he would pick himself up. Sub time and on came nick, harry and malachi. Harry immediately was involved holding the ball up well with some great link up play going through on goal a number of times but the littleborough defence was solid and hard to penetrate.
Dylan had a solid performance playing on the left wing with some great running into space in addition to making great recovery runs to protect the roach defenders. The first half came to a close and the performance had been dominant.
The second half began and the roach lads despite the lead seemed edgy and littleborough came out firing on all cylinders. Some great passing movements resulted in forcing superstar keeper thomas to make some outstanding saves with the roach lads chasing shadows. Littleborough were now doing to roach what roach had spent the first half doing to them. Littleborough constant pushing up the pitch and brilliant play paid off with a well passed goal beating thomas who didnt stand a chance at that range. Littleborough wanted to win the game and they felt the comeback was on. The roach coaches could see we needed to settle the lads down, get the ball on the floor and play. Some swapping of roles occurred to try and balance the team out which seemed to work wonders. The roach lads were playing roach football again and the play began going from end to end. Kayden and shaquil providing stability at the back and seemed much more relaxed on the ball. The energy if nick helped to push the lads forward at any opportunity and the littleborough lads knew winning would need to be earnt with the next goal being critical. Harry continued to creat problems for littleborough playing as a number 10 holding the ball and popping it out to his team mates who were working hard to put the fixture to bed. One of the best opportunities for it came when the ball was flashed at the keeper who parried straight into the path of malachi, whose positioning was spot on, the keeper was beat but unfortunately the finish went wide. Nick also had a couple of opportunities to put the fixture to bed by creating some great space down the wing but the chances just didnt enter the net. Corner after corner was won by roach and by now the pressure was telling on both teams. The ball came in from the corner and up rose dylan with a sublime header into the top corner. This is starting to become his party trick and the fixture was finally put to bed. Littleborough as always gave roach a tough game and showed some outstanding football that on other days would have gotten the result. Had it not been for the outstanding performance of thomas the scoreline may have been closer. A brilliant result and still unbeaten this season. Can the lads continue on this great run. Next week we travel to close park and play radcliffe aces in a fixture that is always close.
