Roach continue winning

Talented marauders team make a game of it

This week was supposed to be a free week for the roach lads but a request to play prestwich marauders at st marys early in the week was accepted. The two teams had not met since early last season and this would be another test for the roach lads. The absence of oli for surgery meant the roach team was still under strength...get well soon olski. The instruction to the team as always was enjoy the game, play our football and keep possession. The roach lads listened and acted from the kick off keeping possession well and within 30 seconds the first chance came with some great passing play between harry, benji and sam resulting in sam striking a great shot just wide. An absent shaqeel at the back saw a start for nick at the back with kayden who are both more than up to the challenge and shut down any possession the home side had and passing the ball forward back to the midfield. Thomas who had little to do during the game dictated the game pace from the back playing well with his feet and comfortably saving any efforts towards him. The marauders played some good football and reminded roach not to be complacent with their number 9 causing some real headaches with individual skill and lightning quick pace getting beyond the roach defence on a few occasions but kayden and nick did enough to keep the talented attacker at bay. It took 5 minutes for the roach team to strike the first blow with winger dylan carrying the ball forward and releasing the in form harry to finish with style. Great goal. The roach lads won back possession quickly and started again as if it were 0-0 passing the ball back and forward making it really hard for prestwich to get any possession. 60 seconds later sam picked up the ball and struck the ball sweetly to double the lead. Sam was involved again a minute later putting the ball in the perfect spot within the area for dylan to confidently finish which is something this talented player is making a habit of. Sam continued to make a menace of himself with a few powerhouse shots forcing the prestwich keeper to make save after save...a man of the match performance from the prestwich keeper. All of the roach team pushed forward with the defenders holding at the halfway line. Kayden found himself in possession within shooting distance forcing a shot wide. The game saw the return of malachi who used his pace to great effect attacking the spaces on the wing and he was determined to get a goal against his friend in the prestwich goal with his first shot narrowly missing the target. Prestwich continued to work hard and defended very well holding the roach lads at bay. Further shots from harry, sam and nick did not meet the back of the net and the scoreline remained the same. Ball possession was high and a great performance so far.
The second half commenced and the ball retention continued. It took only two minutes for the roach lads to get off the first shot by harry forcing another brilliant save. The roach lads began to get complacent due to the consistent control of the game. Prestwich played some very impressive football and the game began to go end to end. During a roach attack benji found himself in space putting a brilliant ball in to dylan who slotted another goal in. Most teams would start to give up with this scoreline but all credit to the prestwich lads they continued to play football and attacking well. The complacency really set in with the roach lads believing they couldn't concede. This proved costly as prestwich scored two very good goals in quick succession. Roach struggled at first to take back control of the game and seemed very disappointed at conceding goals which was something they hadnt really experienced this season. Malachi was released down the wing taking the ball wide into the corner and sending the ball straight into the area where harry was waiting to put away his second. Harry and dylan worked well together passing the ball well and wanting to repay malachi for his assists and put malachi into the box who finished excellently. The ever improving nick had been brilliant at the back but he wasnt content on just stopping goals being scored he wanted to creat one. He carried the ball forward spotting sam in space who was more than happy to put the game to bed. The prestwich lads were very impressive never giving up and playing at times some brilliant football. They will no doubt beat many teams this season. The roach performance was at times outstanding controlling around 75% possession. The only dampner on the performance was the two goals conceded due to over confidence. This was more than we have conceded all season and our concentration needs to be for the full game. The next fixture will be the biggest test so far this season and could determine the end of season top spot. Could roach continue the unbeaten run or would walshaw (last seasons league champions) beat the roach lads for the second time in the last 10 meetings and get revenge for the roach cup final win?
